According to Amazon’s recent report, British online merchants have set a new record in exported goods in 2016 - over £1.8 billion.

But what do shoppers from the UK like buying from Amazon?

Amazon EchoAmazon's Echo and Echo Dot sold strongly across the UK.

The most sought after products in London were premium sleeping masks and video games. Customers from the Midlands have a sweet tooth and bought chocolates and coffee in large quantities.

The North East seems to be the party capital as celebratory products essentially skyrocketed. In the North West, customers are preoccupied with personal grooming and their pets.

Northern Ireland likes its local musicians and authors while Scottish buyers are passionate about Macbeth and Kanye West. Smart home gadgets were in high demand across the UK.

Amazon Global

Amazon is dominating global ecommerce and Amazon Prime continues its accelerated growth as more and more retailers and buyers join in. At a global level, Amazon shipped over 2 billion items in 2016 through its FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon) program.

Similarly, the Seller Fulfilled Prime (SFP) program has also grown with sellers adding more than 6 million new Prime eligible items across the US, UK, France, Germany and Japan.

For new joiners, SFP is currently on standby but merchants are gearing up their logistics capabilities to join the program as soon as it’s available again.

Another platform that’s bound to see impressive growth is Amazon Business. Here, online merchants can sell to other businesses rather than individual consumers. After one year since its launch, Amazon Business US has over 45,000 sellers that processed sales of over $1 billion in 2016 for more than 400,000 customers.
